DMACC men's basketball team drops 85-80 decision to ILCC

Sophomore Tray Buchanan of East Moline, Ill., scored 24 points and sophomore Quinton Taylor of Cedar Point, Texas, added 21 as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball team fell to Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC), 85-80, Jan. 12 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The Bears, ranked 17th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, dropped to 11-5 overall and 1-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with the loss. ILCC is ranked 20th in the poll.

 

DMACC led 33-32 at halftime. The Bears shot 44 percent from the field, connecting on 28 of 63 field goal attempts. They were 7-of-22 from three-point range and 17-of-28 from the free throw line.

 

ILCC had a 42-37 advantage in rebounding with Buchanan and sophomore Dyllan Robinson of Las Vegas, Nev., grabbed eight rebounds apiece to lead DMACC. Sophomore DeShawn Davidson of Waukegan, Ill., dished out five assists and Buchanan had six steals.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will host North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) Jan. 16 inside the DMACC gymnasium. The Trojans, 11-2 overall and 2-0 in the ICCAC, are ranked 14th in NJCAA Division II. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
