DMACC men's basketball team drops 92-76 decision to KCC

Sophomore Tray Buchanan of East Moline, Ill., led three players in double figures with 23 points as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball team dropped a 92-76 decision to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) January 9 at Cedar Rapids.

 

KCC, which entered the game ranked fifth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, led 35-34 at halftime and put the game away behind 57 points in the second half.

 

DMACC, ranked 17th in NJCAA Division II, fell to 11-4 overall and 1-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). Sophomores DeShawn Davidson of Waukegan, Ill., and Dyllan Robinson of Las Vegas, Nev., joined Buchanan in double figures with 15 points apiece.

 

The Bears shot 42 percent in the loss, draining 27 of 65 field goal attempts. They were 10-of-23 from three-point range and 12-of-19 from the free throw line.

 

KCC came away with a 39-29 advantage in rebounding with Robinson and sophomore Zaire Swaby of Brooklyn, N.Y., grabbing six rebounds apiece to lead DMACC. Davidson pulled down five rebounds and led the Bears in assists with three.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will face Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) in an ICCAC matchup Jan. 12 inside the DMACC gymnasium. ILCC is ranked 20th in NJCAA Division II. The Lakers are 11-4 overall and 2-0 in the ICCAC. Game time is 3 p. m.
