Buchanan leads DMACC men's basketball team past SECC, 87-75

Sophomore Tray Buchanan of East Moline, Ill., scored a season-high 25 points and came away with six steals to lead the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball team to an 87-75 win over Southeastern Community College (SECC) December 10 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Buchanan made nine of 12 shots from the field, including 6-of-8 from three-point range, and was 11-of-12 from the free throw line as the Bears improved to 9-2 for the season. SECC, a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I program, suffered its second loss of the season against 11 victories.

 

Sophomores DeShawn Davidson of Waukegan, Ill., and Quinton Taylor of Cedar Point, Texas, helped the DMACC cause with 17 and 10 points respectively.

 

DMACC led throughout the game, including 44-34 at halftime. The Bears shot 46 percent, hitting 24 of 52 field goal attempts. They were 10-of-30 from three-point range and 29-of-38 from the free throw line.

 

SECC came away with a 44-31 advantage on the boards with Buchanan and Davidson pulling down eight rebounds apiece to lead DMACC. Freshman Vinny Tarello of Bolingbrook, Ill., led the Bears in assists with four.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will play Central (Neb.) Community College (CENEB) Dec. 14 at Columbus, Neb.
