Davidson, Buchanan lead DMACC men's basketball team past SENEB, 73-67

Sophomore DeShawn Davidson of Waukegan, Ill., scored 23 points and freshman Tray Buchanan of East Moline, Ill., added 20 points to lead the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball team to a 73-67 win over Southeast (Neb.) Community College (SENEB) December 1 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The Bears got 10 points from sophomore Dyllan Robinson of Las Vegas, Nev., as they improved to 7-3 for the season. DMACC never trailed after a layup by freshman Zach Lester of Clear Lake gave then Bears a 14-13 lead with 7 minutes, 52 seconds left in the first half. Lester finished with nine points.

 

DMACC led at halftime, 25-21, and stretched its advantage to as many as 16 points in the second half in beating SENEB for the second time this season.

 

DMACC shot 43 percent, hitting 23 of 53 field goal attempts. The Bears were 2-of-11 from three-point range and 25-of-36 from the free throw line.

 

Davidson's nine rebounds and eight apiece from Robinson and sophomore Zaire Swaby of Brooklyn, N.Y., helped DMACC to a 43-32 advantage on the boards. Buchanan and sophomore Ray Miller of Davenport dished out two assists apiece in the win and Buchanan came away with five steals. He and Robinson had two blocks apiece.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team begins Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play against Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Dec. 5 inside the DMACC gymnasium. Game time is 7:30 p.m. SWCC is 10-0 this season and is ranked sixth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll. DMACC has received votes in the poll but is not ranked in the top 20.
