DMACC men's basketball team falls to Highland (KS), 76-72

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball team slipped to 4-2 for the season following a 76-72 loss to Highland Community College (HCC) November 13 at Highland, Kan.

 

The two teams were deadlocked at 38 at the half and HCC, ranked seventh in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, outscored DMACC 38-34 in the second half to get the win and improve to 5-0 for the season.

 

Sophomore DeShawn Davidson of Waukegan, Ill., paced DMACC with 22 points and freshman Tray Buchanan of East Moline, Ill., added 19 points. Sophomore Quinton Taylor of Cedar Point, Texas, came off the bench to score 11 points.

 

The Bears shot 38 percent in the loss, making 23 of 60 field goal attempts. They were 7-of-26 from three-point range and made 19 of 26 free throw attempts.

 

HCC had a 43-42 advantage on the boards with Davidson's 14 rebounds leading DMACC. Buchanan and freshman Zach Lester of Clear Lake had six rebounds apiece. Buchanan led the Bears in assists and steals with two and three respectively.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will host the Baymont Inn & Suites Classic Nov. 16 and 17 inside the DMACC gymnasium. The Bears will play County Upper Academy (CUA) on Nov. 16 and will face Metropolitan Community College (MCC) on Nov. 17.
