DMACC Men's Basketball Season Ends with 92-51 Loss to SWCC

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball season came to a close following a 92-51 loss to Southwestern Community College (SWCC) March 6 in the quarterfinals of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Region XI Men's Basketball Tournament at Creston.

 

The game slipped away from the Bears in the second half when they made just eight of 29 field goal attempts and SWCC took advantage, pulling away from a 38-33 halftime advantage to defeat DMACC for the third time this season.

 

Freshman DeShawn Davidson of Waukegan, Ill., scored 13 points and sophomore Wali Parks of Iowa City tallied 10 as the Bears ended the season at 17-13. DMACC shot just 31 percent in the game, hitting 19 of 62 field goal attempts. The Bears were 7-of-23 from three-point range and made six of 12 free throw attempts.

 

SWCC also won the battle of the boards, pulling down 48 rebounds to DMACC's 35. Freshman Lee Higgins of Chicago, Ill., led the Bears with six rebounds and sophomore Nysir Marshburn of Philadelphia, Penn., and freshman Andrew Madison of Grand Rapids, Mich., had five rebounds apiece. Higgins led DMACC is steals with six and sophomore Antowine Locke of Bolingbrook, Ill., dished out a team-high four assists.
