Six players scored in double figures, but it wasn't enough to lift the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball team past Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) as the Lakers away with a 96-90 win over the Bears January 17 inside the DMACC gymnasium. The loss ended DMACC's four-game winning streak.

Freshman Lee Higgins of Chicago, Ill., and DeShawn Davidson of Waukegan, Ill., scored 11 points apiece and sophomore Wali Parks of Iowa City added 10 as DMACC, ranked 10th in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), fell to 14-4 for the season and 1-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

The Bears led 46-43 at halftime but were outscored 53-44 in the second half. DMACC shot 42 percent in the loss, hitting 29 of 69 field goal attempts, including 3-of-19 from three-point range. The Bears were 29-of-37 from the free throw line.

ILCC came away with a 40-39 advantage on the boards with sophomore Nysir Marshburn of Philadelphia, Penn., leading DMACC with six rebounds.
