DMACC Men's Basketball Team Improves to 12-3 with Lopsided Win

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball team ran its record to 12-3 for the 2017-18 season with a 111-55 win over Hibbing Community College (HCC) January 6 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Freshman Lee Higgins of Chicago, Ill., led five players in double figures with 23 points as the Bears, ranked 17th in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), opened up a 54-32 lead at halftime and coasted to their second consecutive victory.

 

Sophomore Wali Parks of Iowa City and freshman Ray Miller of Davenport scored 17 points apiece in the win and freshman DeShawn Davidson of Waukegan, Ill., and sophomore Nysir Marshburn of Philadelphia, Penn., tallied 13 and 12 points respectively.

 

DMACC shot an impressive 67 percent in the game, making 46 of 69 field goal attempts. The Bears were 9-of-20 from three-point range and 12-of-15 from the free throw line.

 

Marshburn collected seven rebounds and freshman Andrew Madison of Grand Rapids, Mich., added five as DMACC came away with a 39-26 advantage on the boards. Davidson, sophomore Antowine Locke of Bolingbrook, Ill., and freshmen Devonte Prince of Brooklyn Center, Minn., and Eli Ward of Joliet, Ill., had four rebounds apiece.

 

Marshburn, Parks and Locke led the Bears in assists with five apiece and Prince topped DMACC in steals with three.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will host the Mount Mercy University junior varsity on Jan. 9. Game time is 7 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium.
