DMACC Men Routs Graceland JV to Improve to 11-3

Freshman Lee Higgins of Chicago, Ill., led four players in double figures with a career-high 28 points as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball team defeated the Graceland University junior varsity, 112-71, December 10 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Freshman Brandon Lawani of Bolingbrook, Ill., scored 16 points, sophomore Wali Parks of Iowa City had 15 and sophomores Antowine Locke of Bolingbrook, Ill., and Nysir Marshburn of Philadelphia, Penn., had 14 and 10 points respectively as the Bears improved to 11-3 for the season.

 

DMACC doubled the score by halftime, 54-27, and coasted to the win with a 58-point second half. The Bears shot 53 percent, making 41 of 77 field goal attempts, including 13-of-30 from three-point range. Eighteen of Higgins' 28 points came from beyond the arc, where he was 6-of-13. DMACC was 17-of-29 from the free throw line.

 

Marshburn recorded his first double-double of the season with 10 rebounds as the Bears came away with a 58-23 advantage on the boards, including 24 offensive rebounds. Parks narrowly missed a double-double with nine rebounds and Lawani and freshmen Devonta Price of Brooklyn Center, Minn., and Elijah Ward of Joliet, Ill, had seven rebounds apiece.

 

Marshburn and Locke led DMACC in assists with four apiece and Marshburn added two steals.

 

The game closed out the 2017 portion of the season for the Bears. They will open the new year against Hibbing Community College (HCC) Jan. 6. Game time is 2 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium
