DMACC Men  Falls to Southeastern

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball team fell to 10-3 for the season following an 87-71 loss to Southeastern Community College (SECC) December 5 at West Burlington.

 

SECC, a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I team, led 35-31 at halftime time and put the game away by outscoring the Bears 56-36 in the second half. DMACC is an NJCAA Division II team.

 

Sophomore Wali Parks of Iowa City led DMACC with 18 points and three assists. The Bears shot 46 percent in the loss, making 22 of 48 field goal attempts. They were 13-of-26 in the first half, but made just nine of 22 field goal attempts in the second half. DMACC was 4-of-17 from three-point range and 23-of-36 from the free throw line.

 

SECC also topped the Bears in rebounding, 30-29. Freshman Andrew Madison of Grand Rapids, Mich., led DMACC with six rebounds and sophomore Nysir Marshburn, of Philadelphia, Penn., pulled down five rebounds.  Freshmen Lee Higgins of Chicago, Ill., and Ray Miller of Davenport had two steals apiece for the Bears.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will host the Graceland University junior varsity on Dec. 10. Game time is 1 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium.
