Higgins, Parks Lead DMACC Men Past William Penn

Freshman Lee Higgins of Chicago, Ill., and sophomore Wali Parks of Iowa City combined for 41 points to lead the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball team to a 108-75 win over the William Penn University junior varsity (WPUJV) November 14 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Higgins scored 21 points and Parks added 20 as the Bears improved to 5-1 for the season. Freshmen Devonta Prince of Brooklyn Center, Minn., also reached double figures with 14 points and freshmen Ray Miller of Davenport and Hamza Gocobija of Chicago, Ill., came away with 10 points apiece.

 

DMACC led 48-32 at halftime and put the game out of reach in the second half when the Bears scored 60 points on 68 percent from the field, hitting 23 of 34 field goal attempts, including 7-of-13 from three-point range. DMACC shot 60 percent for the game, connecting on 40 of 67 field goal attempts, including 11-of-24 from three-point range. The Bears were 17-of-33 from the free throw line.

 

WPUJV came away with a 44-38 advantage on the boards with Miller and Prince grabbing six rebounds apiece to lead DMACC. Miller and sophomore Antowine Locke of Bolingbrook, Ill., had eight assists apiece in the win and Miller, Prince, freshman Andrew Madison of Grand Rapids, Mich., and sophomore Nysir Marshburn of Philadelphia, Penn., had two steals apiece.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will host the Baymont Inn & Suites Classic Nov. 17 and 18 inside the DMACC gymnasium. The Bears will face County Upper Academy (CUA) on Nov. 17 and will play Oakland Community College (OCC) on Nov. 18.
