DMACC Men's Basketball Team Tops Grand View JV for Third Straight Win

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball team remained unbeaten for the 2017-18 season and stretched its winning streak to three games with an 87-70 win over the Grand View University junior varsity November 7, inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Sophomore Wali Parks of Iowa City scored 17 points and freshman Lee Higgins of Chicago, Ill., added 16 points to lead the Bears to the win. Sophomore Shammond Ivory of Perry came off the bench to score 10 points.

 

DMACC took control of the game in the first half and had a 39-24 lead at intermission. The Bears shot 50 percent for the night, hitting 34 of 68 field goal attempts, including 4-of-13 from three-point range. They were 15-of-25 from the free throw line.

 

Parks and freshman Elijah Ward of Joliet, Ill., grabbed seven rebounds apiece to lead DMACC to a 43-37 advantage on the boards. Sophomore Nysir Marshburn of Philadelphia, Penn., and freshman Brandon Lawn of Bolingbrook, Ill., had five rebounds apiece. Higgins topped the Bears in assists with four, freshman Devonta Prince of Brooklyn Park. Minn., had a pair of steals and freshman Ray Miller of Davenport blocked three shots.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will face Harry S. Truman College and Olive-Harvey College on Nov. 10 and 11 respectively. Both games will be played in Chicago, Ill.
