The DMACC baseball team has been given a No. 9 seed in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Baseball World Series.
The Bears take a 36-24 record into a first-round game against Kellogg Community College (KCC) at 10 a.m. on May 25. KCC is 43-10 overall and comes into the tournament with a nine-game winning streak.
DMACC is making its first appearance in the tournament since 2012 and its fifth since 2008. The Bears also qualified in 2008, 2009 and 2011.
The Bears advanced to the tournament after winning the NJCAA Region 11 championship and topping Dakota County Community College (DCTC) in the North Plains District Championship.
A win against KCC will send the Bears to a second-round game against top-seeded LSU-Eunice (LSUE). The Bengals are 52-7 and are in the tournament for the 11th time, the second most in NJCAA history, and they are seeking their eighth national title. LSEU's last championship came in 2021.
The DMACC-KCC loser will move to the consolation bracket of the double-elimination tournament and will not play again until May 27 at 10 a.m. The opponent will depend on the outcome of games on May 25 and 26.
The tournament continues through June 1 at David Allen Memorial Ballpark in Enid. Okla.
