DMACC baseball team splits four games against Iowa Central

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) baseball team split four games against Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) April 19 and 20 at the DMACC baseball diamond to run its record to 29-13 for the season.

 

ICCC won the opener both days, 3-0 on April 19 and 11-10 on April 20. DMACC took both nightcaps, 7-2 and 3-2.

 

The split gives the Bears a 15-5 record in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) and keeps them atop the league standings. They have a two-game lead over Southeastern Community College (SECC).

 

DMACC was limited to just two hits, a single by sophomore Calen Schwabe of Thompson, N.D., and a double by sophomore Austin Murr of Stillwater, Minn., in dropping the opener on April 19. ICCC scored single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings to come away with the win.

 

Sophomore Jackson Uner of Maplewood, Minn., pitched the first six innings and saw his record level at 3-3 with the loss. He allowed two runs on four hits, struck out four and walked five. Freshman Garret Reisz of Council Bluffs pitched one inning, allowing one run on one hit and striking out one batter.

 

Murr and sophomores Roman Vega of Buffalo, Minn., and Jacob Pinkerton of Beatrice, Neb., had two hits and two RBIs apiece in DMACC's win in the second game. Murr had a double and a triple and Schwabe and Pinkerton hit triples.

 

DMACC trailed 1-0 after four innings, but scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth and three in the bottom of the seventh to come away with the win. ICCC scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings.

 

Freshman Logan Ymker of Sioux Falls, S.D., pitched the first five innings and improved to 2-1 with the win. He allowed two runs on four hits, struck out four and walked three. Freshman Thomas Bruchu of Stillwater, Minn., worked three and a third innings of hitless baseball. He struck out two and walked one. Sophomore Jakob Richardson of Cave Creek, Ariz., went two-thirds of an inning, striking out one batter and walking one.

 

Sophomores Denver Blinn of West Fargo, N.D., and Evan Salmon of Urbandale each homered in DMACC's loss in the opener on April 20. The Bears trailed 6-3 after three innings and 9-8 after four innings. ICCC scored twice in the top of the fifth for an 11-8 lead and limited DMACC to single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to come away with the win.

 

Blinn drove in three DMACC runs and Murr had a pair of RBIs.

 

Sophomore Henry Ristvedt of Savage, Minn., pitched the first two innings and suffered the loss to fall to 4-2 for the season. He allowed six runs on six hits, struck out one and walked one. Freshman Keaton Duckett of Johnston went an inning and two-thirds, allowing three runs on one hit. He walked two and struck out two. Sophomore Sam Laakso of Duluth, Minn., pitched a third of an inning and allowed one run on one hit and he walked one batter. Freshman Nathaniel Gorczyca of Omaha, Neb., also went just a third of an inning, giving up one run on two hits and walking one batter and freshman Hayden Thomsen of Maple Grove, Minn., went two-thirds of an inning and struck out the only two batters he faced. Freshman Jonas Sanders of Fargo, N.D., pitched two innings, allowing two hits and walking two batters.

 

DMACC trailed 2-0 through seven innings, but scored a single run in the eighth and two in the ninth to come away with the win in the final game of the series.

 

Murr paced the Bears' 10-hit attack with four hits, including a triple, and Schwabe had two hits. Blinn, Murr and Vega drove in one run apiece.

 

Freshman Kaden Peterson of Luther pitched the first four innings, allowing two runs on five hits. He struck out four batters and walked two. Freshman Will Moritz of West Des Moines worked five innings and ran his record to 2-0 with the win. He allowed three hits and struck out three batters.
