DMACC baseball team avenges earlier loss to IHCC with 5-3 win

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) baseball team avenged a 14-13, 10-inning loss to Indian Hills Community College (IHCC) on March 27 with a 5-3 win over the Falcons April 2 at the DMACC baseball diamond.

 

The Bears improved to 17-9 with the victory.

 

Freshman Dylan Voves of Mason City staked the Bears to the win with a pair of hits and sophomores Denver Blinn of West Fargo, N.D., Austin Murr of Stillwater, Minn., and Cort Olson of Scottsdale, Ariz., drove in one run apiece.

 

DMACC led all the way, scoring one run in the bottom of the third, three in the bottom of the fourth and one in the bottom of the fifth. IHCC made it a 5-1 game with a run in the sixth and scored twice in the ninth.

 

Freshman Will Moritz of West Des Moines pitched the first seven innings and recorded his first win of the season. He allowed one run on six hits and struck out four. Freshman Keaton Duckett of Johnston pitched an inning and two-thirds, allowing two runs on one hit. He struck out one batter and walked three. Sophomore Sam Laakso of Duluth, Minn., pitched a third of an inning and earned his first save of the season. He allowed one hit and struck out one batter.

 

The DMACC baseball team, second in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) at 6-2, faces Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) in doubleheaders April 6 and 7 at Estherville. ILCC is 11-7 overall and 3-5 in the ICCAC
