DMACC baseball team drops 10-inning decision to Indian Hills

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) baseball team fell to 13-8 for the season following a 14-13 loss to Indian Hills Community College (IHCC) March 27 at Centerville.

 

IHCC, a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I program, scored two runs in the bottom of the 10th to come away with the win. DMACC, an NJCAA Division II program, had an 11-4 lead after scoring a run in the top of the eighth, but IHCC scored six runs in the bottom of the inning to make it an 11-10 game. The Bears went ahead 12-10 with a run in the top of the ninth, but two runs in the bottom of the inning gave IHCC a 12-12 tie. DMACC took a one-run lead with a run in the top of the 10th before IHCC scored twice in the bottom of the inning to get the win.

 

Sophomore Austin Murr of Stillwater, Minn., led DMACC with four hits, including a pair of doubles, and two runs batted in. Freshman Dylan Voves of Mason City and sophomores Denver Blinn of West Fargo, N.D., and Jacob Pinkerton of Beatrice, Neb., had three hits apiece and sophomore Calen Schwabe of Thompson, N.D., had two hits. Sophomore Roman Vega of Buffalo, Minn., drove in three runs and Voves and Pinkerton joined Murr with two RBIs apiece.

 

Freshman Will Moritz of West Des Moines pitched the first five innings for DMACC, allowing one run on five hits. He walked one batter. Freshman Thomas Bruchu of Stillwater, Minn., threw two innings, allowing three runs on three hits. He struck out four and walked two. Sophomore Chris Witzke of Humboldt walked three batters and allowed three runs but was not credited with any innings pitched and freshman Nathaniel Gorczyca of Omaha, Neb., allowed three runs on four hits in two-thirds of an inning. Sophomore Jakob Richardson of Cave Creek, Ariz., worked an inning and a third, allowing two runs on one hit and striking out one batter and freshman Cole Schumacher of Bennington, Neb., gave up two runs on two hits in two-thirds of an inning. He walked one batter and suffered the loss.

 

The DMACC baseball team will face North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) in a four-game series March 31 and April 1 at the DMACC baseball diamond. Game time each day is 1 p.m. DMACC is 3-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). NIACC is 9-10 overall and 2-2 in league play.
