DMACC baseball team drops doubleheader to Iowa Western CC

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) baseball team fell to 3-5 for the season following a doubleheader loss to Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) March 11 at Pittsburgh, Kan.

 

Game scores were 5-0 and 5-1.

 

The Bears were limited to just four hits in losing the first game. Sophomore Austin Murr of Stillwater, Minn., had a double and sophomore Ramon Vega of Buffalo, Minn., sophomore Jacob Pinkerton of Beatrice, Neb., and freshman T.J. Mahoney of Des Moines each singled.

 

IWCC scored a pair of runs in the top of the first and held that advantage until the seventh when the Reivers scored three runs.

 

Sophomore Spencer Hanson of West Des Moines pitched the first four innings and suffered the loss, his first decision of the season. He allowed two runs on four hits, struck out two and walked three. Sophomore Thomas Bruchu of Stillwater, Minn., pitched two and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on three hits. He walked one batter. Sophomore Jakob Richardson of Cave Creek, Ariz., pitched a third of an inning and surrendered one hit.

 

Sophomore Jack Johnson of St. Paul, Minn., and Pinkerton each singled in DMACC's loss in the second game. The Bears scored their only run in the bottom of the first when Vega walked and scored on an IWCC error.

 

Bruchu pitched four innings and took the loss. He allowed four runs on eight hits, struck out one and walked one. Freshman Kaden Peterson of Luther worked one inning, allowing one run on two hits and freshman Will Moritz of West Des Moines threw an inning and struck out one batter. Sophomore Chris Witzke of Humboldt pitched two-thirds of an inning and recorded a strikeout and Hayden Thomsen of Maple Grove, Minn., pitched a third of an inning.

 

The DMACC baseball team is idle until March 16 and 17 when the Bears will face Western Technical College in doubleheaders at Joplin, Mo.
