Southeastern Takes Doubleheader from DMACC

Southeastern Community College (SECC) swept a doubleheader from the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) baseball team April 17 at West Burlington, winning by scores of 7-0 and 13-3.

 

The Bears were limited to just three hits in each game as they fell to 15-19 overall and 4-10 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

SECC scored three runs in the first inning and two each in the fourth and seventh innings to come away with the win in the opener. DMACC got singles from freshmen Calen Schwabe of Thompson, N.D., and Denver Blinn of West Fargo, N.D., and sophomore Matt Krambeck of Omaha, Neb., and did not advance a runner past second base.

 

Sophomore Alec Holcomb of Owatonna, Minn., pitched the first three and two-thirds innings for the Bears and saw his record fall to 0-7 with the loss. Holcomb allowed five runs on six hits, struck out five and walked six. Freshman Nate Holliday of Muscatine worked three and a third innings, allowing two runs on two hits. He struck out one and walked one.

 

SECC used six-run rallies in the second and fourth innings to come away with the win in five innings in the nightcap. Krambeck single and drove in two runs for DMACC and Blinn and freshman Misael Sanchez of Allentown, Penn., also had base hits in the game.

 

Sophomore John Werner of Burlington opened on the mound for the Bears and threw two innings, allowing six runs on five hits with one strikeout and one walk. His record fell to 2-3 with the loss. Freshman Jackson Uner of Stillwater, Minn., pitched an inning and two-thirds, allowing seven runs on seven hits and walking two batters and freshman Carlos Eusebio of Coral Springs, Fla., pitched an inning and a third, striking out one batter and walking one.

 

The DMACC baseball team will face Ellsworth Community College (ECC) in doubleheaders April 21 and 22 at Iowa Falls. ECC is 10-27 overall and 7-9 in the ICCAC.
