The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) baseball team fell to 15-17 overall and 4-8 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) following a doubleheader loss to Southeastern Community College (SECC) April 13 at the DMACC baseball diamond.
The Blackhawks scored in all but two innings in winning the opener, 12-1. They overcame a 5-4 deficit with a run in the top of the eighth and another in the top of the ninth to take the nightcap, 6-5.
DMACC was limited to just four hits, two by freshman Austin Murr of Denmark Township, Minn., and one each from sophomore Matt Krambeck of Omaha, Neb., and freshman Tavien Gillette of Rock Island, Ill., in losing the first game. Gillette drove in the Bears' only run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth.
Freshman Jakob Richardson of Cave Creek, Ariz., pitched the first four innings for DMACC and suffered the loss, his second of the season against two victories. Richardson allowed eight runs on eight hits, struck out one and walked two. Freshman Carlos Eusebio of Coral Springs, Fla., pitched two innings, allowing one run on one hit and walking two batters and freshman Misael Sanchez of Allentown, Penn., surrendered three runs and walked two batters but was not credited with any innings pitched. Freshman Jeremy Lovera of Allentown, Penn., worked one inning, gave up two hits and struck out one batter.
Murr, Krambeck, freshman Austin Weiler of Olathe, Kan., and freshman Robbie McCargar of West Des Moines had two hits apiece for DMACC in the second game. The Bears overcame a 4-0 deficit with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and then took a 5-4 lead with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Krambeck, Weiler and freshman Denver Blinn of West Fargo, N.D., drove in one run each for the Bears.
Freshman Spencer Hanson of West Des Moines pitched the first five and two-thirds innings for DMACC, allowing four runs on 11 hits. He struck out two and walked two. Sophomore John Werner of Burlington worked two and a third innings, allowing one hit, striking out one batter and walking two and sophomore Alec Holcomb of Owatonna, Minn., pitched one inning and allowed a run on two hits. He struck out one batter and suffered the loss, falling to 0-6 for the season.
