DMACC Baseball Team Takes Doubleheader from Midland JV

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) baseball team swept a doubleheader from the Midland University junior varsity April 11 at the DMACC baseball diamond.

 

The Bears won by scores of 15-0 and 14-4 to improve to 17-15 for the season. Both games were called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

 

Freshmen Austin Murr of Denmark Township, Minn., and Tavien Gillette of Rock Island, Ill., hit home runs and freshman Calen Schwabe of Thompson, N.D., collected three RBIs to pace the Bears in the opener. Murr and freshman Robbie McCargar of West Des Moines had three hits apiece in the win and Schwabe, sophomore Matt Krambeck of Omaha, Neb., and Gillette had two hits apiece. Murr, Krambeck, McCargar and freshman Cort Olson of Scottsdale, Ariz., drove in two runs each.

 

Sophomore Luke Longmuir of Cottage Grove, Minn., pitched all five innings for DMACC and evened his record at 2-2 with the win. He allowed two hits and struck out four batters.

 

Freshman Denver Blinn of West Fargo, N.D., was 4-for-4 with a double and six RBIs in DMACC's win in the second game. Murr and Krambeck had two hits apiece and freshman Austin Weiler of Olathe, Kan., and Hayden Fiala of Sioux Falls, S.D., drove in two runs apiece.

 

Longmuir worked the first inning of the game, allowing three runs on three hits. Freshman Jackson Uner of Stillwater, Minn., pitched the final four innings and improved to 4-0 with the win. He allowed one run on three hits and struck out two batters.

 

The DMACC baseball team, 4-6 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC), faces Southeastern Community College (SECC) in doubleheaders April 13 and 16 at the DMACC baseball diamond. SECC is 26-9 overall and 8-4 in conference play
