NJCAA suspends all athletic competitions

2018-19 Athletics Promo

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) announced today the suspension of all athletic competitions from March 14 to April 3.

The announcement comes because of developments regarding COVID-19.

The organization also announced the Board of Regents will meet on April 3 and an update from the national office will provide a full assessment of the national landscape. Should conditions improve, regions and individual colleges will be allowed to resume regular season competition in a format and time period following April 3 that has been approved by the region. During the entire "no competition" period, practice standards will be determined by the individual colleges.

The NJCAA's announcement affects the DMACC men's basketball program and the school's baseball, softball and men's and women's golf programs.

The DMACC men's basketball team qualified for the NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship after winning the Region XI championship on March 9. The national tournament was scheduled to be played March 17 to 21 in Danville, Ill., but has been postponed and is tentatively scheduled for April 20 to 25.

The DMACC baseball and softball programs are about a month into their seasons. The softball team was suppose to be in Fayetteville, Ark., for a tournament on March 14, but that tournament was postponed earlier. The Bears have 16 games scheduled through April 3.

The DMACC baseball team was playing Indian Hills Community College (IHCC) in a doubleheader today at the DMACC baseball diamond. The team has 11 games scheduled through April 3.

The DMACC men's and women's golf teams have yet to begin their spring seasons. Both teams were scheduled to play in the Graceland Invitational March 27 and 28 at Maryville, Mo. Their next scheduled event is the Wartburg Invitational April 3 and 4 at Waverly.
