  • Jungers threw a no-hitter in a 9-0 win over Southeastern Illinois College
  • Jungers collected two wins and struck out 20 batters in two games
  • Jungers is 2-0 with an 0.64 earned run average this season

 

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Kierra Jungers the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Softball (pitching) for the Week of February 17 to 23.

 

Jungers, a freshman from Fonda, is being honored for the first time this season and she is one of three members of the DMACC softball team to be honored by the conference this season. Sophomore Hilary Wilson of Solon was honored for her hitting the week of Feb. 17 to 23 and sophomore Macy Blomgren of Waukee was honored for her pitching performances the week of Feb. 10 to 16.

 

Jungers pitched in two of DMACC's five games in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Leadoff Classic Feb. 21 to 23 in Columbus, Ga. The Bears went 4-1 in the tournament with Jungers getting two of the wins, one being a no-hitter.

 

Jungers made her first start against Illinois Central College (ICC) on Feb. 21 and came away with a 10-1 behind a one-hitter. She struck out 10 batters and walked two.

 

Jungers' no-hitter came against Southeastern Illinois College (SEIC) on Feb. 22. She pitched all six innings, striking out 10 batters and walking one. She faced just 20 batters, two over the minimum in the game.

 

SEC is a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I program.

 

Jungers is 2-0 with an 0.64 earned run average this season. She is allowing .36 walks and hits per inning. Jungers has pitched 11 innings and has allowed one run on one hit. She has walked three batters, struck out 20 and is averaging 12.73 strikeouts per seven innings.
